Raynham, Massachusetts-based DePuy Synthes is launching in the U.S. a novel line of titanium integrated interbody implants for spine surgery.

Brand named PROTI 360°, this is a family of integrated titanium interbody devices for patients with degenerative disc disease in the neck and back. According to DePuy Synthes, PROTI 360° is the only titanium-integrated Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) that offers 360 degrees of titanium integration.

Furthermore, the titanium integrated surface of the PROTI 360° promotes the attachment and growth of bone-forming cells.

According to DePuy, “Data presented at a recent podium presentation during the International Society for the Advancement of Spine Surgery Meeting showed calcium deposition, which is an indicator of early bone formation, was 470% higher with the PROTI 360° Technology than PEEK alone and 305% higher than titanium alone just one day after device testing.”

The other key feature of PROTI 360° is that DePuy Synthes’ engineers designed the implants for better bond strength between the materials, fortified titanium edges, and no exposed corners. The purpose is to prevent delamination, a process in which titanium coatings separate from the PEEK implant where the two materials meet.
